We shared a way to get products and services you needed in exchange for your products and services by bartering. Here we tell you about auctions for business as another option for finding more clients and prospects.

The advantage of relying on business auctions is that you already know there are businesses in need of your products or services. Now it's your turn to get the client to say, "Yes".

At one point -- in the early 2000s -- it looked like B2B auctions were going to disappear. But today's economy could be on the verge of bringing them back. These offer small businesses with equally small marketing budgets a way to get their name out there.

Freelancers have been doing this for years. They bid on gigs on special freelancing auction sites like Elance and domystuff. So it doesn't surprise me that this service has grown to cover larger businesses. These sites also serve businesses -- not just freelancers.

Finding the right site to make bids is the hardest part of the job. Businesses in Nashville can go to the Chamber of Commerce's site through its online request for proposal (RFP) portal called BusinessConnect. Check with your Chamber of Commerce for services it offers.

Onvia posts RFPs from private companies and government agencies. The site charges a fee in exchange for providing subscribers with RFPs, bids and lead information for over 40,000 organizations. The site offers a free trial.

Other business to business portals and marketplaces are Perfect Commerce, 1Sync, Alibaba, Terrecom,

McGraw-Hill Construction connects construction businesses with projects and products. Businesses search for projects and jobs and do market research. Therefore, you might look for niche sites like this one is for construction businesses.

FedBizOps, BidNet and FedOpps let businesses search for government bid and award information. B2GMarket is a gateway to government business where businesses can search for opportunities from federal, state and local government agencies. INPUT also provides market intelligence and search tools to help businesses bid and win government business. WomenBiz helps women who wish to get government contracts.

Bocat lists global marketplaces for businesses. Business.com has a decent directory of B2B markets for specific industries.
