
They have long been shattering corporate glass ceilings and throughout the recession have emerged as key players in helping companies weather the financial storm.
Women business owners and more broadly women in business have also played a key role in the economic development of the state of Pennsylvania and were aptly recognized by the governor in a ceremony this week.
"The women selected for this prestigious honor represent a wide range of business sectors and make a strong impact on business growth and job creation in every region of the state," said governor Edward G. Rendell at this year's Best 50 Women in Business awards reception.
"Women entrepreneurs are creating opportunities for business expansion and growth, and creating job opportunities within their own communities," added Department of Community and Economic Development deputy secretary for business assistance Dee Kaplan.
Among the award recipients are women making contributions at consulting firms, investment houses, engineering companies, legal firms and within the healthcare field.
